greek life

I am planning on attending Wash U in the fall as a freshman. When is rush? Fall or spring? What is greek life like at Wash U? For frat and sororities. Would love to hear any of your experiences. Thanks in advance.

Rush is freshman spring. Greek life at wash u isn't the stereotypical one you hear about at big southern state schools, or even ivies like Penn or Dartmouth, so there's not a huge divide between greeks and "gdis". That being said, the vast majority of big social events on campus are either hosted by frats or attended by people in greek life, so I've found it to be the best way to meet people and have a good time at a pretty geeky school.

Not stereotypical meaning? Like no hazing? Or just not animal house?

Never thought I would rush. I thought sororities were for rich, white girls who just wanted to party and be all superficial. Anyways, I changed my mind really last minute (like the end of my freshman year fall semester) and signed up to rush and Im really happy that I did. Im a relatively shy person, and being in a sorority helped me become more social and gain a lot more friends.

In general tho, rush was h e l l- being forced to talk to girls you didn't know and acting all fake. The first day was the worst- you had to talk to strangers for literally 7 hours straight or something like that since you have to meet all sororities. From there, it gets better since you go to less and less sororities each day. It's really stressful tho- most girls get it in their head that they need to be in their #1 choice sorority in order to be happy but this isn't always true. My friend cried on the second to last day after getting cut from her top two sororities but she joined a different sorority and is happy in it now. I was one of the lucky ones- out of all the sororities, I vibed with 1 the first day of rush, and it was my top one all the way until I got a bid from them
