how bad is it to drop before initiation and rerush

by:

I went through rush and got cut from the sororities I felt like I meshed with the best before pref day and I ended up accepting a bid at a different sorority. Now I'm second guessing if I'll actually be happy here after meeting my pc because I don't seem to have anything in common with them. Would it be better for me to deactivate in a couple weeks, before initiation and try to rerush as a sophomore next year? or would that be really really difficult and am I stuck with either eventually dropping out of Greek life altogether or stick with the sorority I got a bid from and just not getting too involved with their sisterhood?
Obviously I will give these girls a chance because I got invited here for a reason, but it would help to know my options.

It depends on why you don't feel like you mesh. Remember, it's been a day (not even) and there's so many girls and so many types in ever sorority.

If you really think, after a couple of weeks, it's not for you, it's better to drop than initiate and be stuck forever. I think there's s girl who either graduated or is a senior now who was Pi Phi after freshman year and didn't like it and then after she rushed again she joined DG and stayed. So it's not completely unheard of BUT definitely harder.

it can be quite difficult to go through rush as a sophomore. you basically have to have to either make an incredible impression during rush, like above and beyond what would normally be required, or have very good friends in the chapter you want to join who are willing to advocate hard for you during recruitment. some chapters will cut all sophomores unless they have a current member who is willing to promise to take that soph as a little if she ends up joining the chapter.

no harm in going through new member period! I know a LOT of people who were really unhappy with where they ended up at first but ended up giving it a shot and made friends. you're for sure not alone. you've accepted the bid so I believe at this point this means you can no longer participate in informal fall recruitment. whether you drop now or two weeks from now, you'd still have to wait until next spring to rush.

honestly so many people are v unusure of their chapter on bid day and during the first few weeks, even the first month. Def give them a chance, especially because it's SUPER hard to rush as a sophomore. Most sororities only are willing to take 2, maybe 3 sophs in their pledge class, and they usually have an idea of who they're going to take before recruitment even starts. Sophomores usually end up with few choices, and most drop from recruitment anyway

If a chapter gave you a bid it is because they were really interested in you. Give them a chance to show you why they chose you! Also, reach out to the recruitment counselors in your chapter! They can help you find your place.

RErushing as a sophomore usually doesn't work out. First time rushing as a sophomore is hard enough, let alone rushing again...which means that houses on this campus already cut you. Girls aren't going to forget why they cut you.

I'd stick it out with the girls who actually saw something good in you and wanted you to be their sister instead of trying to go for the girls who didn't want to get to know you.
