Best way to tell my family I lost most my money?

I lost most of my money doing something stupid and I really regret it. I been lying to everyone I know to try and hide the shame I feel. I want to die. I learned I should just accept it and try to rebuild. I just feel so sick about it and didn't even tell my parents. How do I tell them that I lost all my savings for college and life? I don't want to get into the details of how I lost it all but I promised myself I won't ever do it again. How do I ask for forgiveness from my family?
