informal vs. formal
by: BlahWould it be better to just try and get into a house during informal, or to go through rush formally as a sophomore? I feel like I want to maximize my options, and since informal doesn't include every house, formal seems better, but will I be at a huge disadvantage as a sophomore for the houses i want? (Right now i really like the girls in theta, kappa, and kd)

It depends on if you did formal this year. Because if you got dropped from those houses once, chances are you'll get dropped again. But if you didn't i'd say go through formal. There are more options, but honestly not all houses take sophomores, some do, but some would rather have freshmen. But if you really wanna be in those houses do formal. HAVE GOOD GRADES 3.2+, have good conversations, and look your best. I hope you have friends in those houses too.

Informal is definitely more relaxed and usually people tend to have a better chance at getting into the house they want if that house is doing informal. I'd suggest doing informal to get to know the girls in houses participating in a more real setting than formal. And if you feel like you really don't click do formal.

I think she meant, if she wants one of those three houses, she knows she would have to go through formal. BUT would they take her as a sophomore? I think if you have your heart set on one of those houses you should wait for formal. Yes, less Sophomores are in the new PC's, but also less sophomores rush so i think percentage wise it's about even. The beginning of joining a house is the most fun. Bid day, syllabus week with your temp big, big little reveal, all of that is such a vital part of greek. I think it is worth it to go through formal instead of informal.

Formal is a crazy process where there are so many people going through that alot of times its just who you talked to going through. Informal is an opportunity to meet more members in a relaxed setting where they can focus even more on your personality because it's a more personal recruitment process. I say go for it and if it doesn't work out go through formal :)
