This is a little warning to all of the PNM’s rushing a sorority this year who think they know exactly which house/houses they want to join:

Rarely does someone end up joining the house they think they’re going to join at first. Maybe in a few circumstances, like your older sister is a legacy, or all of your friends are in that house already - but for most girls, recruitment flips their world upside down and they end up with completely different thoughts on the houses than they expected at first - which is great!

IMPORTANT: If you’re worried you won’t get into a “good” house, then you must not think of yourself a “good” PNM.

So, if your favorite house, Kappa Kappaccino drops you on the first day does that mean you should drop out and try rushing for them again next year? No. They already saw you and made the decision that you would fit in another house even better. These girls know their sisterhood, and not to mention they usually know your name and face before you walk in the door. They are giving you an opportunity to find a home somewhere else. If you care about being in a sorority, your best bet is to try to find a home somewhere else. Please keep in mind that every house has every type of girl and that the sorority experience is unparalleled to anything else you can experience in your college career.

With that said, stick with recruitment even when it gets tough, because I promise that nothing feels better than to run home on bid day into the arms of a new sister in a house that sees all you have to offer. And, if you think you’re “too good” for a certain house, then wouldn’t you joining it help it rise? Food for thought.
