2017 recruitment questions

by:

Okay, so I'm going to be a freshman in Fall 2017. I definitely am going to rush to be in a sorority and just had a few things I wanted to ask/get opinions on!

-rankings. I see you house rankings on here but how do ya'll decide? Do general rankings matter that much?

-grades. What kind of grades do sororities look for? I have a 3.49 and take a lot of honors classes but my best friend has around a 3.0.. maybe a little below maybe a little above? I think like a 2.9, though. Will she still get a house?

-getting into a house. Do some girls not get ANY bids? Not including girls w bad grades.

-What are houses looking for besides grades, "clicking", and a positive attitude?

-Do most girls get one of their top houses..? I'm confused about selectivity.
Thank you!!

Honestly OG you are worried way too much about ranking! Yeah being in a top house is great but the best part about it is the sisterhood. You can find a sisterhood in any chapter though. It's where you feel the most comfortable and where you feel like you will grow and thrive for the next 4 years. If you click with a top house you'll likely get a bid, if you don't then you won't. It's simple! Yes top houses are more selective on looks but at the end of the day each chapter has something different to offer besides it's ranking. If you're only going into recruitment with the mindset of what house is best, your attitude is going to show and you'll probably end up in a house you didn't want.

People don't care about ranks very much at wsu! At other schools they seem to be everything, but you will get into the same parties and have just as much of a social life regardless of ranks. Choose the house u like the best and you will be happy, otherwise you'll have regrets

Hi, I'm a former Rho Gamma so I would love to answer your questions!
1. The fact that you're even asking about "rankings" hurts me. This is not even something to potentially consider when choosing a sisterhood. At the end of the day, you want to think about what friends you want beside you when you're in a nursing home, not who looks hottest next to you in Instagram pictures. Clear all thoughts of that from your head right now, you won't be happy with the chapter you end up in if this is how you view recruitment.
2. Grades are a factor, but getting along and having good conversations is more important. Chapters evaluate holistically consider a lot of factors. Before recruitment your Rho Gamma should provide you and your friend with a general idea of what chapters are required to drop for certain GPAs.
3. Some girls do not receive bids. But as long as you take the process seriously and don't intentional single preference (this will be explained during recruitment) you should be fine. And if that doesn't work out, there is always informal.
4. Sororities look for you to show an accurate representation of yourself. Just like you're trying to find where you belong, they want to find women who will fit in with their chapter. It's in both of your best interests to be genuine.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
