2017 recruitment questions
by: greygal
Okay, so I'm going to be a freshman in Fall 2017. I definitely am going to rush to be in a sorority and just had a few things I wanted to ask/get opinions on!
-rankings. I see you house rankings on here but how do ya'll decide? Do general rankings matter that much?
-grades. What kind of grades do sororities look for? I have a 3.49 and take a lot of honors classes but my best friend has around a 3.0.. maybe a little below maybe a little above? I think like a 2.9, though. Will she still get a house?
-getting into a house. Do some girls not get ANY bids? Not including girls w bad grades.
-What are houses looking for besides grades, "clicking", and a positive attitude?
-Do most girls get one of their top houses..? I'm confused about selectivity.
Thank you!!

DO NOT let rankings affect your choice. Recruitment will go a lot better for you if you come in with an open mind. Grades do matter and some houses could drop you if your grades aren't at their average (it should say their average on their website). They base how they want you usually on how well you click and if your values align. Remember not everyone gets a "top house", but if by pref day you have at least one house left you WILL get a bid.

Grades- my house has a GPA cut off, we have had to cut some girls due to grades but not all houses are like this. The GPA cut off is individual to each house
Ranking- Most girls get a house in their personal top 5, that doesn't mean the house itself is known as a "top" house. Some girls do not get a bid at all, but don't worry there are snap bids, continuous open bids, and informal recruitment so a lot of these girls end up in a house anyways.
What we look for- I can't speak for all houses but for my house we look for involvement (did you volunteer in high school or hold any leadership positions? Did you play sports?) Someone who is engaged in the conversation and is excited to be here, positive attitude, personal presence (cares about appearance), and does NOT talk about how much they party or how many guys they get.\n\n\n\n\n

Also the only people who care about tiers are freshman and sophomores. Once you're an upper classmen you'll meet enough people and realize that every chapter has some great people. Think ahead to your friends for the next 4 years. Not just who looks the hottest on bid day.

What are snap bids and continuous open bids? What is a general range of the GPA cut offs/general cut off?
