sorority recruitment 2017 questions!

by:

Okay, so I'm going to be a freshman in Fall 2017. I definitely am going to rush to be in a sorority and just had a few things I wanted to ask/get opinions on!

-rankings. I see you house rankings on here but how do ya'll decide? Do general rankings matter that much?

-grades. What kind of grades do sororities look for? I have a 3.49 and take a lot of honors classes but my best friend has around a 3.0.. maybe a little below maybe a little above? I think like a 2.9, though. Will she still get a house?

-getting into a house. Do some girls not get ANY bids? Not including girls w bad grades.

-houses to avoid. I know everyone has preferences, but are there any houses to avoid? Not because of personal bias but for good reason? Obviously I want to love my house and so I wanna know the bad houses/stuff about them, but not everything bad is always out in the open so I'd love to know.

-What are houses looking for besides grades, "clicking", and a positive attitude?

-Do most girls get one of their top houses..? I'm confused about selectivity.
Thank you!!

i don't know the answers to most of these questions, but I know a lot of the better houses can be very selective. some girls do not get bids at all. I would say the four or five best houses are going to be hard to get into, but the middle and bottom are easier. good luck though

Rankings don't matter. Your friend will be dropped b/c of academics. Every year there are girls that don't get bids, you can try informal in the spring if that happens. Fitting in and grades are important, top houses also recruit based on looks. Most girls do not get into their top choices, because most girls choose top houses.

So the rankings on here are based on looks, involvement, "popularity", sisterhood, kindness, the basics...
You will definitely have more options with a better GPA, and unfortunately, your friend will most likely be dropped from almost all houses after the first two days...but she could get her grades up and rush informally.
The girls that most often don't get the most bids are girls who go into rush with a bad attitude, obviously don't want to be there and don't think the sorority life is for them.
I had some bad experiences with houses during rush, and have bad experiences with houses since then, but every house has its own personality and if anyone tells you that a house is bad, ignore them. I'm in a house that one of my friends thought was bad, and I have friends in houses I had negative experiences with.
Off of that, there are definitely better houses to be in depending on what you value and how involved with the greek community you want to be, but its all based on personal preference.
Honestly, all girls are looking for is grades, diversity, positive attitude, and clicking. Be yourself, there's nothing else. Obviously don't talk to much about your boyfriend for example, but be open and make sure to ask them about them too.
