cob/sophomore year formal recruitment

by: Hufflepuff

How much of a disadvantage is it to do formal fall recruitment as a sophomore? I decided to live in the dorms this year to please my family, but it hasn't clicked and I know that I want to rush. I'm thinking of doing COB either winter or spring quarter, but I'm not sure that I'll found a house that I love. I know most people rush as freshmen, so will most houses be against taking in a sophomore during formal recruitment?

I know houses that have signed juniors and sophomores (: You should not let your age or grade discourage you from joining the community but I would do it ASAP because spots for COB are filling up and you want as many options as possible.

Do you think that if I register first thing winter quarter I'll be okay? Now I just have to break the news to my family...

for sure! I hate to say it but formal rush would have been the best choice because all houses were available. And now, only about 6-7 I believe are doing cob (take in mind there's only about 3-6 girls each house has room for too). But since it is too late, get a feel for the houses that are doing cob! Remember, it is a lifelong commitment: once you are initiated you can no longer join another house...ever.

On a more positive note, there are still great houses doing cob. I mean, all houses are great! It's just whether or not you fit personally into them

Just make sure you do it asap. And if your parents are not supporting you, make sure you tell them all of the details, such as sororities are 100% dry (if a member is found with alcohol in the house they are dropped immediately), all Greek average gpa is much higher than other students, sororities are very involved in philanthropy, you'll have tons of fun and make amazing lifelong friends!
