Thoughts on Formal Rush 2024

I am in the middle of formal rush. Leadership is so positive to the point it is starting to feel a little deceptive. I feel my best interests are not necessarily in line with the goals of this process. From what I am starting to understand, the algorithm is more concerned with making sure every sorority fills its rush quota (16/house is the rumor) than it is about allowing each of us explore our full options that may be available to us during the COB process.
I am not concerned with being in an ‘unofficial’ top house and I do not expect that they would want me or it would be good for me. I want to be in a house I can feel proud of within the UW sorority sisterhood. I also want to make sure I am in a sorority that can fill its beds to the point that it doesn’t create an unexpected financial burden on me. I am excited about recruiting new members, I just don’t want to focus all my energies on trying to fill beds.
Thoughts? Are there sororities where my concerns will be an issue? Thoughts on walking away and doing the COB process?

Stick through the process and see if the houses you end up seeing again align with your values. If it’s truly not for you, cob may be a great option afterwards. But joining a house through primary is the easiest way to get closer to the other members in your mc. Don’t drop before you’ve explored all the options you have left

Thanks. Are you a RC? Your response sounds like it is from the formal recruitment playbook. I am not looking for cruel comments on any house. Looking for reality on what it means to be in one of the bottom ranked houses - socially, financially, and need to continue recruiting

usually by the end of recruitment the total PNM count is about half of what it was at the beginning of the week because they drop out of recruitment for one reason or another

i also would encourage you to stick with the process at least until pref! if you can’t see yourself in either of your pref houses then i would consider dropping out of primary (before signing your MRABA) and cob at a later point. but primary is definitely your best chance at becoming close with your pc and getting the most out of your first year!
honestly a lot of the financial troubles that sororities have is because there are just not enough girls going through primary recruitment anymore. cob is awesome but not as financially beneficial for the sororities since you are able to remain in whatever your housing situation is (dorm, apartment etc) instead of moving into the sorority house. most sororities at UW are struggling financially tbh and that’s why there’s such a universal emphasis about primary recruitment

Formal recruitment is set up to give pnms the most time possible to get to know as many actives in a house as possible. If you are dropped from a house it could mean they don’t think you’d be happy there. You need to put a little trust in the hands of the actives. They want happy pnms who find great friends
Almost every house will CoB at some point throughout the year, but it’s not a given. If you drop out now with the intention of finding a house through COB those events can be very rushed and honestly they often will bid a girl just to fill a bed without thought as to her truly fitting in.
I guess what I’m trying to say is I’d stick it out and see how it works out for you. In the end if you aren’t happy you can pursue other options

I am not an RC, I’m an active in a relatively high recruiting chapter. Joining a house that is financially struggling is not the easiest to be honest. You will absolutely find people you love however, having to invite back people solely because the house needs to fill beds will create a non-cohesive chapter. Since the chapter won’t be able to be selective, they will often have to invite back people that have little in common with each other. That doesn’t automatically mean your experience will be bad, but definitely maybe discouraging, especially during your time as a recruiter. Socially, the options of people to connect with may be limited but every chapter here goes to tons of parties and have many social events.
