DO NOT SIGN UP FOR SORORITY PRIMARY RECRUITMENT

by:

If you have a brain don’t sign up for primary recruitment it’s a horrible process just COB and sign whatever house you want after every sorority is desperate for members and you can basically pick where you want to go without the stress of primary

One thing to keep in mind is that not all houses will participate in COB so you may not be able to end up at your dream house

Every house is going to be forced to COB due to a lack of members

COB is a process used in order to meet capacity totals set for all chapters. So, however big or small formal fall recruitment MCs end up being, most houses will only have 1-3 spots open, if any at all, because capacity numbers are based on the whole house not just the new MC. Even though COB is a totally great process & definitely something to look into if you would like a more laid-back recruitment process, it does not at all guarantee you end up with your top choice or with a bid from a house at all. On the other hand, if you go through the formal recruitment process in good faith, you are guaranteed a bid from a house.

Nobody likes COBs, you won't be as close with your pledge class unless you live in. Do primary recruitment so that freshman fall quarter is the time of your life

This comment is clearly coming from a desperate panhell exec trying to keep their house from going extinct

Then why is half of every sorority pc COBs now? Are you saying no one likes half of their own pc?

Not saying COB is not a "back door" way into a sorority but I really am. You will won't be as close as the original PC is.

Why are sororities at Washington “desperate for members”? A university like UW should have a super strong Greek system. What’s going on?

By: Why?

Greek life nationwide is struggling more than in years past it’s just not as popular anymore, and it’s a snowball effect. Less people joining means less $ for parties, rush, etc so less people join the next year

A relatively large part of the student body are international students who are significantly less likely to participate in Greek life.

Older Greek system member here, the popularity of COB's making up a pledge class was because of the pandemic. when my pledge class rushed in 2019, 100% of us were from Formal fall recruitment. Because formal fall recruitment saw lower numbers post-pandemic, sororities couldn't make an entire pledge class from just FFQ anymore. This is why recent pledge classes (like PC 20, 21, and 22) have a larger number of COB's. Both avenues have their strengths and weaknesses, so please make a decision that is best for YOU, but, don't expect COB to be as popular as it is now. Houses will slowly but surely go back to having 100% of their pledge class from Formal Fall Recruitment.

With that being said PCs go down in size by a couple of people every year so COBs become more and more necessary as houses struggle to pay the bills
