question about rushing

by:

I decided I wanted to try joining a sorority either through cob or through fall recruitment in my sophomore year, but I’m kind of doubting it because I don’t look like most girls that are on a lot of the sororities instagram pages, does that significantly impact my chances of getting in a sorority? I’ve heard mixed answers about it at uw specifically

I can't lie, some houses are superficial. But there are many more houses that care way more about who you are as a person. I've found sororities at UW to be a lot more holistic than other campuses when it comes to recruitment. Also, a sorority's instagram is not necessarily representative of their memebers ;)

formal rush is super scary tbh, as sororities seem rly daunting from a social media standpoint. but it can be incredibly rewarding. when I rushed I had very few pics on insta, and u will want a sorority that doesn't care about that anyways. def go into it with no expectations and just see what happens, u can always cob if the process isn't right for u. I think formal rush is important tho bc its easier to integrate w other new members and u get to know all the houses, rather than just some.

it’s ok if you don’t look exactly like what you see on the instas! a lot of sororities at UW appreciate diversity of members, even in the top houses despite what u may hear. if you have more of a different look that’s totally fine as long as you look put together and your unique appearance works for you, they will love you :)
