Is A Car Necessary at UW?

I'm from NY and I've never owned a car. Do I need to save up and buy one once I come to UW next Fall? And does it matter what kind I buy? I don't have a lot of money rn :/

A car can be convenient, but not necessary. Assuming you will live in a house or somewhere on campus everything is within walking distance. If you really want to go downtown or to cap hill or the airport we have a light rail system called the Link with a stop by the stadium that you can walk to. If you can't afford a car then don't get one. College is expensive. Don't add an additional expense if you don't need to. If you end up getting a car make sure it is one that you know how to parallel park because that is what the parking is on Greek Row.

You don’t need one as an out of state student. Figure out the bus routes/ link stations/ friends, you’ll be fine
