What makes a house “top”?

There’s a ridiculous amount of rank posts lately... especially on the topic of pi phi/theta no longer being tops and aphi taking their spot instead. But what even makes a house “top”? Wasn’t aphi top to begin with? Where is all this debate coming from?
If being top is being most liked/sought after then wouldn’t all the crap on theta/pi phi make them not top? ... thoughts:

A good answer to your question was deleted a few days ago... bc it wasn’t favorable in theta/pi phi eyes...
Basically it’s all about the paradigm shift between what’s idealized now versus what used to be. All in all I think the Greek system at UW is becoming less shallow, and I think the rankings reflect that.
The “mean girls” mentality of the hottest/cattiest/most exclusive girls MUST be the best is fading... and fading fast. We’re not teenagers in high school anymore and people simply don’t find being snobby to be attractive anymore. ... at least we’ll adjusted people lmao
Basically what’s happened is that everyone’s tired of being looked down at by pi phi and theta, and ESPECIALLY since they recruited poorly (pc 19 is nowhere near as cute as comparable houses...) they don’t really have anything backing up their self-imposed claim of being “top”. At least before they could say they were hot and mean... but now they’re just mean. And I’m sure if you’re good friends with a few they’re sweethearts! This is just the overall vibe they give off to literally everyone who isn’t beta or Fiji.
That’s why other houses, aphi especially since their pc 19 has been championed as the hottest, that put effort into hanging out with a variety of people and of showing strangers kindness are being bumped up to a new (and honestly better deserved) kind of top.
It’s also worth mentioning that houses like aphi/kd/dz that are “on the rise“ are not only just being genuinely nice to everyone... and getting to know people who aren’t just in their immediate bubble... but aren’t caught talking poorly about their sisters. The friendships come off as a lot sturdier which also feeds into them having a sweeter rep.

I had a conversation with a Pi Phi at a party and it started out really nice and she was super social. Then within 5 minutes I told her I was in a mid tier house, she said “oh” and stopped talking to me within 30 seconds.
If they’re all like this then not at all interested in hanging out with houses like that

yaaaaa bump! some of the heat theta/pi phi have been getting on greekrank lately is a little too much but I’d say this thread is an accurate judgment

Bro theta is str8 wack tho. I was dancing with this rockin brunette. She had a tight waist and thick pecs nomnomnom but when the lights came on she legit had a mustache. Never go theta or you'll never come back

But honestly take everything you read on greekrank with a grain of salt... pi phi/theta (and honestly g phi too) all have more bad eggs than other houses but I’m sure there’s lots of super awesome girls in every single chapter. There’s 100+ so there ought to be. Just be yourself during recruitment and go with your gut/ the place that makes you forget you’re in the middle of a round.
