I rushed as a sophomore with low grades from freshman year as well (2.6/2.7). I was a STEM major and was transparent about my academic difficulty as a freshman, and also talked about how I knew a sorority would help motivate me to work harder in school. I ended up in a upper-mid house and since joining I've been on the Dean's List almost every quarter. I guess you should acknowledge your grades if school comes up, and also show that you are super willing to work hard to get your grades higher.

honestly, that's a really low GPA and you're right to be worried. You are likely to get cut heavily by houses. Not saying you won't end up in a house at all, but you're going to have to be open to whichever ones invite you back.
Talk to your RC when recruitment starts and see what she says about it. She might have tips for how to tactfully bring it up to show houses that you are willing to work hard on your GPA.

This is so rude, why would you tell someone to drop out of college ust because their GPA is 2.5? You don’t know their circumstances. And obviously they were smart enough to even get into UW, so it’s not like they’re stupid.
