I think being yourself and having an open mind is super important during rush. But also if you go on to UW Panhell website you can see the grade rank for each house, yes some house cheat so they get a higher grade but you can at least Ball Park where each house is doing. The higher the more resources and connection you will likely find so keep this in mind. I wish I did when I went through!

During FFR, specifically mention your interests and intended area of study. If you say "I'm interested in Nursing or Business, or Comm" then members can target their recruitment efforts, including introducing you to members that share your interests. That helps you get to know who is actually in the house and whether it might be a good fit for you and your interests. The number of members pursuing your major isn't the only thing to go off of, but it's definitely helpful to have older people in your major around the house as you find your way through the UW.

Going off of GPA ranking does not tell you much... houses with many members in highly competitive majors have lower GPAs than those with a lot of members going for less-rigorous degrees. Not saying Sociology is "easier" than a STEM major because it depends upon the person, but GPAs are higher. A house could offer a lot of academic support and have many smart, accomplished members and not be near the top of panhel GPA.

Is GPA a huge factor when rushing?

I definitely agree with the first comment and was gonna say exactly that. While GPA is important, STEM majors be other subjects that require a lot of work often curve to lower grades anyways, so obviously someone whose classes curve to a 2.5 average is gonna have a lower GPA than someone who takes classes that curve up or don’t curve at all. Way more important to see how many people might be studying similar things that you’re interested in so you can get help and have people to ask for advice! All sororities emphasize grades, if you ask during recruitment their answers will all be the same lol

I have taken hard stem, cse and business classes and it isn’t hard to get 3.3-3.8 in any of the classes as long as you try. So if the sorority just says their gpa is low due to stem, it’s usually a lie
It means the girls are making barely average

Smart PNMs don't ASK sororities about their GPA. It's not as important as what the members are studying and WHETHER YOU ACTUALLY LIKE THE MEMBERS.

but good for you for doing well in all those hard classes! and calling other women liars.

If you go to uw, your first priority is school.. so PNM should care about whether the house itself is as driven as they are. More likely they will find more in common with people who have similar drive,.
Also are you butt hurt over your own grade or something, the person just said it isn’t hard in that anyone who puts effort can do it so they should not be fooled by idea that it is okay to have lower gpa/standard just because they are more stem focused... Jesus get a life
