Honestly a lot fraternity's nationals are trying to pass votes to nationally go dry due to recent events painting frats in a bad light (IE penn state betas).

"1) Why is the Fraternity so concerned about hard alcohol?

The trend in recent years regarding the rapid consumption of hard alcohol is of great concern to the Fraternity. Hard alcohol has a much more severe effect on a person due to its high alcohol concentration and, therefore, makes it much more likely for a person to become dangerously intoxicated after consuming it. This policy decision is aimed at making Sigma Chi facilities safer places for all members and guests." They are banning Hard alcohol not going dry, this may lead to them going dry in the future but who knows.

All fraternity houses everywhere will be officially dry for minors within the next 2-3 years because the one insurance company crazy enough to insure Greek houses is going to continue to raise premiums on policies for houses that allow substances in common areas until the rates are ridiculously unaffordable. Some orgs will try to let 21+ have stuff in their rooms, most will make take the easier route of enforcement and go totally dry. Enjoy the final days. Things are changing for everyone. Tomorrow's greeks may not ever see a party at a chapter house, just live outs.

Google "Sigma Chi Policy Changes"
You can see for yourself an example of what's coming.

hard alcohol should be "limited" but everyone knows it will still be served. Only big change is a 5-week pledge period. That could actually help them get rushees to sign, only 5 weeks as a pledge.

Wait until some 60 year old alum on the board is searching the chapter house because HE is liable when the insurance policy is broken.
That's the reality. Random searches... and snitches in the house.
