how accepting is uw greek life?
by: CuriousI’m looking to join a sorority but I don’t see many people of color in many houses. Do houses discriminate? Have you ever felt uncomfortable? Do guys/girls treat you different?

as a poc in a sorority with very few minorities, I’m not going to lie, it can be hard and discrimination is active in some “top” sororities. People won’t make you feel uncomfortable but there are times I feel like I don’t belong. Still I have made amazing friends. The Greek system needs more diversity so I encourage you to look into Greek life.

going through rush as a POC is the biggest self-esteem crusher because you'll go to some houses without seeing a single non-white person, and you just know you'll be dropped by them the next day. that being said, depending on the house, you will find your place - some houses are more accepting than others.

How do people discriminate? Aren’t they obvious about it?
