How many girls are there in an average sorority pledge class?

Depends on how many people sign up for recruitment, but usually somewhere in the mid to upper 30s or sometimes even low 40s.

if it's a good house about 35-38
the worse you did in rush the more people you have to take

That's not really how it works at all. It's based on how panhellenic expects a house to do during rush based on past years. So if a house recruited poorly the year before panhel won't let them cut as many the next year, but then if they do a lot better that year and more PNMs try to stay the house will end up with a PC that's way too big.
