technical question about ffr
by: emma
so if you put down your 3 preferences and do not get a bid, if a house you did not pref gives you a bid, you can accept it and still get into a house? Can you put down more than 3 preferences?
And how do you find out if there is a house you did not preference gave you bid?

It is NOT POSSIBLE to get a bid from a house you did not pref at!!
On the first round, you start off with visiting 18 sororities (all of them except AEPhi who doesn't participate in FFR). Then, you list the top 13 houses you liked best. If all 13 picked you back, you visit them during the next round. However, you could either:
-not get picked by a house you listed, but get picked by a house you didn't list so you still see their house in the next round bc they wanted you even though you didn't want them
-not get picked by a house you listed or a house you didn't list
In both cases, the max. Number of houses you can visit for the second round is 13 (most people go to about 10).
In the third round, you go from 13 houses maximum to 8 houses.
In the fourth round, you go from 8 to 3
In the final (preference) round, you go from 3 to hopefully 1.
The reason why there is no way you can get a bid from a house you didn't attend preference round at is because once you don't go back for the next round, there is no way you can be in that house. This is also why you can't put more than three houses down for preference.

Also wanted to note that most people don't attend the maximum number of houses simply because getting dropped by sororities throughout the week is very, very common.
My week was like this:
1st round: 18 houses
2nd round: 12 houses (max. 13)
3rd round: 4 houses (max 8)
4th (pref) round: 2 houses (max 3)
