rushing based on wealth? how do they know???
by: a cobmaybe this sounds stupid but im currently doing cob and considering fall rush next year and i saw a lot of comments on here saying certain sororities rush based on how rich you are. im just wondering how would sororities know how much money your parents make?? do they have access to ur private school info?

They usually will bring it up in conversation, ask what your parents do. If your parents don't work vs. if they're both lawyers... you can see what I mean.
But just see it as a benefit! The right houses won't ask you that question:) it's definitely a red flag if a house does and you know not to go back.

All of the top sororities will look for things like brands and expensive clothes/shoes and pick up on subtle things like "ski cabins", "summer/beach houses", and talking about over the top vacations in europe. You have to be smart about it if you try dropping any of these key indicators because it's all about being subtle and natural. If you buy really nice stuff for rush and leave the tags on or whatever the girls in top houses WILL notice. I'm not condoning these strategies but it's just the way things work. It's definitely not a coincidence that all the girls who have really wealthy parents end up at theta because those girls want to recruit people who can keep up with and contribute to their upper class lifestyle. Like how awkward would it be if every friend in a group wants to drop $2000 on a week in cabo and one or two girls can't go because they can't afford it or they want to stay somewhere way cheaper that isn't up to other girls' standards

Honestly, if you're avoiding the house's that are going to rush you based on wealth, avoid theta, kappa and Pi phi. Mostly theta and Pi phi, but "visa visa MasterCard" still lingers as one that rushes that way. I haven't heard of any other houses rushing based on wealth.

I was so taken back when a girl asked me whether I or my parents paid for an international trip I was telling her about during rush.
Asking what my parents do for a living is like ehhh ok you might just be curious but why does it matter if I paid for my trip or my parents did
