Fraternities Fall 2022

Welcome freshmen here's the situation. take everything at a grain of salt bc its just from my perspective! stay safe and have fun and remember regardless of rank the best org is always the one you feel like is the best fit. Disclosure I am in a fraternity at VCU but feel know a lot of people in every fraternity. tried to be as unbias as possible.

TOP:
1. Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE)
the most "Traditional" fraternity at VCU, well organized with a great house. very solid foundation has been the best all around at VCU forever. notoriously tough pledge process.
2. Theta Chi (TCHI) / Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) / Pi Kappa Phi (PiKapp)
for the most part on par with eachother. ocassionaly one will pass the others for a semester or two but usually not for long. all 3 are very diverse and culturally new-age/liberal. pikapp and fiji especially into pop culture & things like that. great choices if you aren't up for the typical "Frat boy" image.

MID:
3. Kappa Delta Rho (KDR)
Generally good but poorly organized. huge swings in membership every semester. has been THE middle of the road fraternity at VCU for as long as anyone can remember. heard they used to brutally haze their pledges but not sure if thats still the case.
4. Kappa Sigma (KappaSig)
newest on campus and have done very well for themselves in a short amount of time. very likely to pass KDR this semester due to sheer momentum. most short term potential at VCU but being the newest still finding its footing.

LOWER:
5. Sigma Chi (SigChi)
Checks all the boxes to potentially be middle tier, but falls short in every category. Needs more brothers, more social/campus presence, more engagement, etc etc.. great national org but quite weak at VCU.
6. Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp)
Genuinally some of the nicest/most wholesome guys at VCU. Lots of focus on programming and development so tend to not be as active socially. Look up the Balanced Man Programme if you want to know what this fraternity is about.

BOTTOM:
7. Theta Delta Chi (TDX)
Make an effort in most ways but too few members to really be in the mix. However a close knit group of guys with lots of mutual hobbies and interests. You won't find cliques here.
8. Pi Lambda Phi (PiLam)
Despite being "bottom" very service/community oriented fraternity that loves activism. No social relevance to speak of but if the aformentioned is your thing a good group of people.
9. Triangle
a co-ed engineering fraternity. they just do their own thing and dont engage with the greater greek community.

OFF-CAMPUS
1. Phi Kappa Psi (Phi Psi)
When they were on campus they were known as the "best" of the mid tier fraternites. Off campus until 2024 for hazing. Had a good reputation and really only had beef with KDR.
2. Lambda Chi Alpha (Lambda)
Sort of infamous at VCU for being more a degenerate drinking club then a fraternity. Was the best of the Lower tier simply by virtue of having lots of parties. I personally wasn't a fan of Lambda because all they seemed to do was get drunk and didnt offer much else. Off campus until 2026.
