down one sorority

With one sorority gone (doesn’t matter what tier) it automatically makes every other sorority more competitive simply due to sheer numbers. People have been saying “it doesn’t matter because not many girls even accepted bids from pi phi anyway when they were around” but it still does make a difference because of the entire ranking and mutual selection process. Bottom line: pi phi closing doesn’t matter to ddd, kkg, etc.

But, for PNMs, they now need to be very careful when they rank on day 1. If they eliminate XO/DG/AGD/KD/A PHI or any combo of those on the first day or two simply to be “top tier” and then by pref get dropped from the tops, there will be no fall back or no way to bring back a mid tier. Riskier for PNMs, but the sororitys like it because they can all be more selective and get girls they really like.

Definitely riskier for PNMS like what the first comment said. Logistically speaking the first day they’re gonna have to drop 3/8 as opposed to 3/9. And there’s one less round during recruitment (3 rounds as opposed to 4 rounds) SO the sororities have to drop more girls each round than they did before.

PNMs will unofficially rank sororitys after the first day (ranking the 4 sororitys that they see that day), but by no means will this be an official ranking. After seeing the other 4 sororitys on the second day, they will rank all 8 sororities at once and this will be their first official ranking of the sororities. I would not worrry about the above comments as long as you rank all 8 soroities in the order of your preference. If all 8 sororities ask you back, then you will drop the sororitys that you ranked #6, #7, and #8. This means that on the third day you would go to the sororitys you ranked #1 through #5. But sororitys can and most likely will drop you. If the sorority you ranked #1 doesn't ask you back, but the other 7 sororitys do, then you will go to the sororitys that you ranked #2 through #6. This means that you will be dropping 2 sororitys yourself and one sorority is dropping you. The scenario goes on and on. As more sororitys drop you, you go further down your list. You might not drop any soroities yourself. You also may not get a full schedule. Instead of going to 5 sororitys, you could be going to 4, 3, 2, or even 1. But do not let these numbers bother you or get in your head. Just because your friend gets a full schedule and you don't does not mean you will not get into your dream sorority. How many sororitys ask you back is not important, what matters is WHO asked you back and how much you think you would enjoy being in the sororitys that actually really want YOU. If you stay true to yourself, you don't need to worry about the nonsense above and you will end up in the sorority you belong... also heads up that getting dropped feels awful for anyone and thats okay. Rush is a tough process and most of us in sororitys have PTSD from being in your shoes as freshmen. But it's also amazing and something to get really excited about too! You are about to meet girls that will become your closest friends. Its absolutely terrifying and exciting at the same time. Rush is tough, so prepare for the worst but stay optimistic and true to yourself and you'll end up where you truly belong
