My group pledged in the Spring of 1979. We had to keep our grade average to an overall C, with an A or B in our major classes. We sang in the group areas between classes, tutored some of the elementary school kids after school, sought academic excellence and volunteered in other aspects of our community. My other line members were Pyramids Hot, Cold and Too Cold.

I pledged this chapter at UTEP in the spring of 1979. The Iota Theta Gamma chapter was active, organized & very visible on campus. Our pledge leader, Monica Webb, was a dynamic teacher & we learned the sorority history well, as well as the history of other Greek organizations for African American men & women & overall college life, in general. We sought academic excellence & balanced that with charitable events, volunteering in youth activities & tutored students after school.
