gpa, letters of recs, involvement

by:

Having a 4.0, a stellar letter of Rec, and being the president of 900 clubs in highschool WILL NOT GUARANTEE A BID. Welcome to college where you are a small fish in a big pond. It will keep you from getting cut on the first day though and allow you to show the houses who you really are so you are likely to get a bid. Having a low GPA, no letter of Rec, and not being involved will pretty much guarantee that you won't get a bid.

Plenty of girls from our huge high school with mediocre grades and literally NO honors or activities got bids because they were 'hot' or knew people. Two of the above got in top tier where one was suspended from school for 6 weeks for public drunkeness and the other arrested for the same. In fact those girls all got the ones everyone said were top and the '4.0 president of clubs' type mostly got mid or low tier, and a pretty, top 10 rank, hoco court type got cut by tops because she was a legacy. So having mediocre grades and no activities doesn't hurt a kit of girls. You are right that great grades and resume matter little either though unless you are pretty and know people. Plus you obviously need to be likable and friendly.

What's wrong with soroity girls wanting to get their friends in their house? You sound like the same person obsessed with status and are too aware of tiers. Since top houses will bid girls that aren't cool like you, why do you care? Be happy in your house that bids the 4.0 girls with thick resumes. Don't get your complaint.

Also if top houses don't care about grades, then why are the same top houses always the same top houses in grades year after year.

And if the mid/lower houses are the ones who bid the 4.0 leader type girls, then why do the mid/lower houses never have the top GPA.

that OP is mistaken that girls with low gpas, no resume, or recs are guaranteed not to get a bid. Several girls from my school with exactly that got bids from what most (not just me) consider top tier. From my big west TN high school, we had 13 girls go through rush here and it went as stated above. I never said there was anything wrong with wanting your friends either? Just that if you have a lot of friends in a house you can get a bid regardless of other qualifications.

The top two in grades are both lower middle houses...

If a PNM meets the soroity GPA mandate, has normal positive social skills and is open minded to receiving a bid to all houses then there is a 100% chance of receiving a bid. Pretty good odds. Don't know why threads are started just to scare pnms in to thinking they will go bidless. Girls that go bidless are girls that drop because they didn't get the house they wanted. Which means those girls wanted to be greek for the wrong reason and werent greek worthy.

It does not mean you aren't 'worthy' of being Greek because you aren't desparate enough to spend thousands of dollars to be in a house just to be Greek. It just means you have good sense and some self worth.

This post made me laugh too! I guess i would have just packed my bags and left college if I wasn't found 'greek worthy'! No wonder people think we are a bunch of snots! There is nothing wrong with not wanting to settle for just any group who will take you.
