It's ironic that sororities are organizations that were built upon empowering women and making a difference in society but then y'all get on this website and bash other chapters and let fraternities rank us by how "pretty" we are. ITS OK TO LIKE OTHER CHAPTERS AND BUILD THEM UP I PROMISE IT WONT MAKE YOUR CHAPTER LOOK WORSE!!!!! Please for the love of God start appreciating your chapter for what it is and get a new hobby.

Good post but you will never get anywhere with some of these ridiculously immature and vacuous girls. Bless their hearts...being in a sorority is the biggest thing that has ever happened to them.

Ironic that these organizations are supposed to empower women, yet every fall there is a week spent judging them and picking them apart to decide if they're worthy of being let in

Is that the same process happens when applying for jobs and careers yet no one ever complains about that. At least recruitment helps to prepare pnms for future career interviews. Better get your GPA, resume, reputation and interviewing skills in line if you want that awsome job or any job. This is life. You have to make an effort. There are no handouts.

except in real life you are judged on merit and accomplishments rather than your looks and ability to attract frat boys

Hate to burst your bubble but looks will always be a part of anything that is selection based. You can ask any professional company. They will always pick the tall, skinny, pretty girl over someone that may be just as qualified but not as pretty. It sucks but pretty people typically have more opportunities.

Well no 'handouts' unless you really don't have great grades or a great resume BUT you are really pretty or 'know people', then you get handed a bid regardless! Of course that's like the 'real world' too, you know, the part that does NOT 'empower' woman! I like my sororty but no one but people actually in the Greek system think sororities 'empower' woman, any more than beauty pagents, in fact, the exact opposite is the perception of the 'real world'.

Have to disagree. The top houses may have good looking girls but they have brains also. Top houses are also top in grades every year. If you think a person is hired just because of resume and grades think again. Looks matter in the real world or you wouldn't have started this thread.

I didn't start this thread, just responding a never said looks didn't matter, in fact i said they often matter most, over good resumes...to sororties. That doesn't mean sorority girls aren't smart, just saying people outside the Greek system don't think 'smart' automatically when sororties are mentioned. Cliquey or self absorbed or antiquated more often comes to mind.

Average soroity GPA is above average campus GPA. Greeks also dominate in holding campus leader positions. Greeks are heavily involved in philanthropic events and nationally are some of the strongest charity contributors in the nation. To me the greek system is very impowering.

Only because you are in the very small Greek minority. I agree with you, but i'm also in that minority. That's not the perception most non Greeks have of us though. My extended family still sees it as a vapid pagenty clique and a huge waste of money :(
