lip sync 2015

lip sync this year is honestly ridiculous. there is no reason that a social media contest should factor into a chapter's overall lip sync score. sure, make it part of the philanthropy cup but it shouldn't affect what chapters place in the overall competition. also they are deducting points like crazy from chapters that always do well (for example phi mu somehow has negative points out of 40 and adpi has had like half their points deducted... both chapters who always perform strongly) and handing points out like crazy to chapters that haven't done so well in the past (chi o, pi phi, sigma kappa). literally the way this year has been handled has been so ridiculous and everything that is going on is basically just a set up so that chi o can have a boring dance as usual and somehow come out on top.
everyone I've talked to doesn't even want to participate next year if this is how it is going to be... congrats jpan!! you killed lip sync

Points are deducted for not turning in schedules on time, practicing during unpermitted times, and breaking other rules. The chapters who have low points right now usually do well in the dance because they break rules and practice extra/haze. They're giving everyone a fair chance by regulating the rules more. As for social media, I agree it's petty and annoying. Also points should not be given for how many tickets/shirts are bought because some chapters have like 40 more members than others AND monetary items should not count because some people cannot afford a $21 shirt.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely think chapters should have point deductions for breaking rules such as illegal practices and stuff like that!! But everything I have heard has been girls getting points deductions for costume issues or head shaking... stupid stuff like that. It has just turned way more competitive than it used to be and is doing the opposite of promoting pan love

"People getting points off for head shaking" is kind of true, kind of not. If the girls are onstage throwing their heads around like it has been in the past, points will be deducted. That's because in the past, there have been many many girls pass out and throw up coming off, which is a huge liability for Panhellenic and is just unsafe. Getting points off for costumes has always been a rule, and the only reason a chapter would get points off is if your costumes are over budget. I don't see a problem with either of these rules.
If you look at the Rule Book this year, the points for tickets and shirts don't go toward totals, they're for a separate award for philanthropy. These are not mandatory to buy. All the information is in the Rule Book if you just ask to see it!

so you're mad because chapters that follow the rules might win and chapters that don't follow the rules might lose? and honestly it doesn't matter what jpan does it will always be about the dance and the same teams always win because they recruit more dancers than anyone else. thats why kd and aopi and dz and phi mu all did well last year. i don't understand why you're so upset about this because 1) lip sync isn't even that big of a deal and 2) it's a philanthropy event and raises a ton of money so we can have the greek week build. posting things like this on greek rank just makes ut sororities in general look bad.

oh my chapter is doing just fine :) I just think it is dumb that the lipsync winner is going to be based off of pretty much anything EXCEPT how good their performance is. It just seems pointless to even have it... just raise money in a different way if it isn't even about the dance/lip syncing anymore.
