rush
by: Seriously,Please tell me how girls are chosen. I am crushed. Literally every girl who went through rush that I knew wanted TriDelt, DZ, or PhiMu. With that being said, we obviously were not all going to get a bid. I was hoping to, but that was not the case, so I dropped. The money was just too much for me to pay to not be where I really wanted to be. I met amazing girls in all the chapters, but those 3 is just where I saw myself the most. Will I be a "red flag" if I go through rush again in the fall?

I think that you may have fallen into the mindset of only wanting what sites like this tell you are top tier. I have known this to happen to girls who were very disappointed and then realized it was the best thing that ever happened to them. Don't get me wrong, those are good houses but as you spend some time as a GDI you may realize that they weren't where you would be happy after all. The sheer numbers of girls going through make harsh cuts the norm and you will probably never know the exact reason why you were cut from those three. Too bad you threw in the towel so quickly.

You said you met amazing girls in other houses, soon if "every girl you knew that went through rush" wanted three other houses would those have been the ones "you saw yourself in the most". It sounds like you let others influence you. You said you met amazing girls in other houses...why would you NOT give them a chance even though they weren't on your radar when you started? Some people don't get into their top choice college either. Do you think they don't enjoy their college years because of it? I can tell you that most people still do.....

Interesting, because with my group of friends there were several wanted sororities. In fact, one of those you mentioned were not even on our radar. However, I too got dropped by the houses I wanted the most, but stuck with the process. I am so happy I did! To have narrowed your choices to 3 before you even started was your problem.

Hey girl let me tell you this. There is really no such thing as top houses. There's good houses and not as good houses. Every house is very different and every pledge class is different. Ranks change every single year. Phi mu isn't top anymore. Tri delt had a good recruitment but I think people consider them 'top' only for their wealth, not the type of girls that they recruit. In every sorority there are very different girls and you can find friends and amazing people in each. One year a house could be "top" and the next it could not. So don't fall in the mindset where you want a top house. Because it changes each year. Try again but be more open minded next time!

One thing most of us have in common going through rush at UTK. It is am extremely positive experience for 5%. I was cut by my mother's sorority. I was devastated, but I realized later I would not have made the lifelong friends had I not pledge the sorority I chose.
Go back through next year with a little more insight into the process and realize that no matter which sorority you match with, you will make the best friends and have so much fun!

with this, but even after going through recruitment, these were my favorite, despite the fact that those were the ones it seemed everyone wanted. I really didn't let that influence me, but the money is a big deal to me so I just wanted to go where I felt like I would fit in the best. Thanks for your advice everyone. Maybe after being on campus awhile I will get to know lots of Greeks and be open to others :)!
