recruitment

I'm sorry for all the girls that have been cut recently. But in talking to a few girls, I have to ask...did you truly have an open mind? I've heard of girls who picked the top houses. What makes a house top? EVERY house at UT is great!!! Why limit yourself? If you truly had an open mind and gone where you fit in, you could still be in recruitment.

Agree! Unfortunately so many girls going through not everyone gets their first choice, but 13 awesome houses at UTK!

i agree with the OP. The worst thing a pnm can do is drop out of recruitment because you are unhappy with the sororities you have left to visit. Have an open mind. The process really does work. The houses you have been invited back to clearly think you are special and know you would be a good fit for that house. Being in any of the fabulous 13 sororities at UT is an honor you won't regret!

I disagree. A sorority is close to $3000 and endless hours spent. Why should you pledge one just out of desparation to be accepted anywhere? If you get one you like great! If not, it's perfectly ok to invest your time and money elsewhere. Also, it's nice and pc to say 'all houses are great' but obviously most don't really feel that way considering on this board alone they are 'ranked' over and over and when you ask other Greeks, most are happy to tell you which are 'the worst or best' right off.

New to rush... I get what your saying, but the whole point is not being ranked or in a 'top tier' sorority. That is not what sororities are about. They are about civic involvement, meeting new people, competing in intramurals, All Sing, Lip Sync, Carnicus and Greek Beat. It's fun. Who cares what your sorority is ranked in the minds of a few at that specific moment. . All actually do hang out together, and NONE regardless of sorority regret being greek.

But it's the Greeks themselves doing the rankings?

The greeks doing the rankings are immature freshman who have an ax to grind because of their perceptions during rush and whole of helicopter mms.

If i don't get the one i want tomorrow i am not spending the time or money. I can 'have fun', play games, and have friends, for way less than $3000 a year. I want to be proud of my letters and my sisters. If that makes me shallow or too picky so be it.

Also according to the Greeks themselves, every house is not 'truly great'. Before I rushed, i asked loads of Greeks and they all told me 'best to worst'.

I think what you are missing is that there are many differing opinions on rankings. A house that fits one person may not be the right fit for another. It doesn't mean its a bad house or "beneath" someone, it just means it wasn't what that person felt comfortable with. I agree PNM's shouldn't accept a bid from a house they absolutely don't want to be part of. But that shouldn't happen because why would anyone pref a house they hated? By this time you should be down to the houses you liked. Maybe there is a favorite but if you don't get your top choice there should be enough good things about the others that if you got a bid from the house that wasn't your top choice that would be fine too. Something went wrong if you preffed a house you know you would not accept a bid from.

i just had to say one more thing...the poster above said she asked other greeks and they told her best to worst. Okay but that doesn't make what they said fact for everyone does it? Think of it like music...there are all different types of music that are all pleasing to someone. Some people love country, others hate it, rock, jazz, pop, classic rock, punk, whatever the genre. Some people like a certain song others hate it. Its all personal taste and opinion. That's why you listen to yourself and not what others tell you.

I loved the whole rush experience. I went in knowing nobody and do not consider myself close minded. I really wanted tridelt, dz, or kd. I was cut from all three so yes I dropped. $3000 is a lot of money to spend to be in a group where your heart really isn't into it.
