rec letters
by: pnmI'm really confused as to what rec letters are exactly. Who writes them? How do I find someone to write me one? Would I still be okay if I went through rush without them?

At an SEC school you will likely NOT be okay without them. If you look on the UT Go Greek website most chapters require recs and ALL recommend you get them. You need to find an active or alumni member of each sorority to write one for you. They don't need to actually write that much, it is a form that can be downloaded and completed and/or an online form that they complete and submit on your behalf. You will need to provide them with your GPA and ACT/SAT scores too. Each sorority has instructions in their websites on how they want them. Reach out to everyone you know, use social media, ask everyone you know, family members/extended family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Good luck!

Its not weird and she wasn't suggesting you creep on other people's social media. Just put it out on your own social media that you are rushing and looking for rec letters and see if you get responses. It is weird when you aren't raised around it, I understand why you would feel that way. But many girls do this that need rec's. No one will think you are weird or creepy. Just explain you are rushing you don't know anyone on campus and need help acquiring rec letters for sorority rush at UT. And as the poster up top said, contact local alumni chapters, they understand and you would be surprised how many people are willing to help out a stranger looking to rush and possibly become a future sister. Ask your former teachers. They ALL went to college, surely someone was in a sorority. What about your friend's mom. Many of my friends didn't know my mom was in one. Ask around on Facebook. You'll be surprised how many alums you will find. There are some sororities that don't require it, though it is recommended. Good luck in the fall!

I'm from out of state I don't know a soul on campus. And I'm pretty sure finding a chapter member from creeping on social media is a little shady. Idk this whole thing is weird to me. But thank you for the advice I appreciate it!
