In the beginning, I think recruitment causes a tier drama to happen because pnms are required to rank and rerank houses all week long. But after recruitment is over the tier thing fades away because everyone is busy with their new sorority and still hang with friends that happen to be in other houses.

Perceived tiers are formed when a house is thought to be more "popular" than others. That popularity forms when a house targets girls from certain high schools, towns, states etc. In addition, houses form reps as the "pretty girls" the "smart girls." In other words..."tiers" are based on all of the wrong things but it proves very difficult to change this mindset. The good news is that once all the hooplah of recruitment is over and people quit arguing over who had the "best looking" PC (lol) most girls realize how irrevelant the whole thing is and realize that all houses are cool in their own way. But hey!...this is greek rank, right? Let's roll around in the mud and make fools of ourselves!

Perceived tiers aren't just based on all the wrong things. Houses that are popular during recruitment are also houses that put on a good rush. Certain houses came off as awkward and stilted in conversations and other houses were more relaxed and fun. In that situation which house would anyone up rank? Girls will always choose where they feel the most welcomed and will tell everyone else which houses were their favs. Thus the tier rank is also based on house popularity during recruitment.
