I always thought I wanted to be a KD until my friend said they fine you if you're caught wearing your block letters and no makeup. I am kid of a no frills girl and was wondering if this is true for all the houses.

I don't know why you would want to single out this chapter for something that is obviously not true (my roomate is a KD and I know this is not true for a fact because I watched her get ready every day). Be nice

This is not true at all. Great job trying to make this house look bad ... Shows how shallow you are

How does it make this house look bad? My chapter doesn't require make-up with block letters but it's highly recommended. What's wrong with wanting to put your best foot forward, especially when you're basically advertising for your chapter?

Everyone acts so opposed to this on here but when their members look terrible in their block letters THEN everyone's all up in arms over it.

No one's saying look like Kim Kardashian but a little mascara goes a long way, ladies.

I know some Chapters want you to look recruitment ready ( hair and Make-up done) if you are wearing block letters. Its just like putting your best foot forward. Its not like you have to cake make up on and spend hours on your hair. They just don't want you to look like you've rolled out of bed

I don't find it shallow at all. Chapters just want you to put your best foot forward, especially when representing your chapter in such a prominent way as wearing huge block letters across your chest for anybody and everybody to see. You are just expected to hold yourself to a higher standard when you're wearing your letters, particularly block letters, and while you are ALWAYS wearing your letters, blocks are a way of saying "I am a ___" to people that would otherwise have no idea what chapter you are in, or that you were in one at all. And as much as I hate to admit it, we live in a very shallow world that judges based on appearance and the way people behave, even if they don't know that person or their situation.

And most of the chapters at any SEC school encourage this. It's not uncommon, and it's actually frowned upon NOT to encourage girls to look well put-together when wearing letters. My chapter encourages us to wear our letters once a week and put more effort into our appearance on those days, and I love it. It's a great way to showcase our chapter every week.

Your explanation is ridiculous. Never has anyone at my house told me to wear makeup with my block letters, so don't say most chapters encourage this. As a matter of fact, KD is the only chapter at UT I have heard requires this. Don't lump everyone together to make this petty rule seem okay. My sisters are beautiful with or without makeup. Making people wear makeup is insulting.

It's not this horrible thing you're making it out to be. Do you put make up on when you go to a job interview?

Never said chapters require makeup, she said most encourage you to look "well put together," and there is nothing wrong with that. Why don't YOU want to look your best when representing your chapter is a better question.

want to look my best. But we all have had those crazy days when we are frantically worried about a test. I think it's ridiculous that if a girl wants to throw on letters and run to the library to study, she has to worry about her makeup. Shame on you, KD!

people that feel so strongly about this... OK. Y'all just have your chapter do recruitment with no one wearing makeup or fixing their hair.. since it's so shallow and all.

to wear makeup is shallow...bottom line. Gee, I'd like to think I could go to the library in block letters without makeup. Don't make up excuses...it's stupid to require that.

is NOT true for all houses no matter how KD wants to defend this. While all houses encourage their members to look good, there are times when girls want to not have to worry about it. Perhaps KD should change this policy...it's ridiculous.

you don't want to "worry about it" when you are going to the library, then do not wear block letters. Simple as that. Sure, wear a t shirt that has your letters on it but block letters are saying "HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT ME. I AM IN THIS CHAPTER." And honestly, you should want to have your best foot forward while doing that out of respect for your own chapter and all the girls you are representing. I do not think its shallow at all.
