Pref Rank Computer system
by: ConfusedIs it true that I could get my #2 because of the computer system. That doesn’t seem fair and more in favor of the chapter than the pnm.
#2 by: mutual selection
A computer looks through both a chapters rankings of PNMs and the PNMs rankings of the chapters and then matches based on that. If someone gets their second choice it means that their first choice chapter did not rank them higher than other PNMs that also ranked that chapter #1. A chapter can only take so many girls, so if that chapter is maxed out the computer then moves on to the second choice chapter. The process does not give preferential treatment towards any of the chapters or the PNMs. It’s purely a numbers game that tries to match up both chapter and PNM rating. A chapter could rank someone very high, but if that PNM ranked another chapter higher, and that other chapter ranked that PNM before maxing out its bid list , then that PNM will go to their higher choice chapter.
#3 by: Bid Matching
The sororities are choosing their new members. Their membership selection is entirely up to them and always has been. Sorority recruitment has never been a sign up sheet where every girl just picks her sorority and then joins. There are plenty of other organizations where you can do that.
If you don't get your #1 pick it's not because of a computer system. The sororities make all the decisions and this whole process used to be done by hand with each pnm on an index card and stacked and sorted in huge piles, taking hours and hours. The computer is just a tool but the process is exactly the same. Here's how it works:
You rank your houses #1 and #2 and the sororities rank all their pref pnm's. The bid matching process starts at the top of the sorority's ranked bid list and goes down in order looking for the pnm's who put that house as their #1. Each of those is a bid match, and the search continues down the list until the sorority matches to Quota, then they are done. If you are high enough on your #1's bid list to match with them before they reach Quota, you will get that bid. If you are not high enough to make that cut off then the process will next attempt to match you with your #2. If you are high enough on their list to make their cut off you will get a bid from them. If you also don't match with your #2 before they fill to Quota, then you will be placed as a Quota Addition at either house, depending on your ranks of them, the way you were ranked on the two houses' bid lists, and the sizes of the chapters.
This is pretty much the same process as every other round, except for pref no one is dropped unless she SIPS (suicides).
