Horrible rush last year bc I was shy

by: Help

In high school I was on a sports team and had a lot of friends but I’m from a small northeast town and didn’t know much about rush. I was really intimidated and had the worst conversations of my life in every house because I just couldn’t think of what to say. I was so scared and it felt so weird I just went blank. I made friends in some clubs this year but not really with anyone in a sorority. I feel like they wouldn’t want to be my friend because their house dropped me so they must have something that makes them better than me if they got in. Ik it doesn’t work like that but idk how to get over this feeling I want to rush again this year

Do it! Girls rush again every year and do much better the second time because they are better prepared. You can have a completely different rush and no one will hold anything against you from before.

Remember that your conversations are not interviews or quizzes where actives are looking for the right answers. They are about connecting on a personal level to find a common vibe. It's not what you say so much as how you say it that shows your personality.

Be confident, interested, and enthusiastic in your own characteristic way. If you show up believing and acting like you don't belong then it will affect your rush.

Also you might be surprised who you know in a sorority that you didn't realize. Your clubs, classes, dorm, friends of friends including the guys who know sorority members too.

Do it!

this is so true! as someone who’s in a sorority, we take girls every year who have rushed before. just be glad that after being on campus for a year you have a better idea of what chapters you think are a good fit for you! be yourself and be confident and you have nothing to worry about.

I knew someone who was dropped from recruitment in the fall, didnt get a bid in the spring, and then got into her top choice her second time rushing. It is not unheard of for people to do significantly better their second time around in. Many who you talk to probably wouldnt even know you previously rushed unless you mention it. But if you received a bid from a chapter and you declined it (you dont specify in your post if you were dropped or if did not like your bid) that chapter will likely let you go early on to not waste yours or their time.

That is a good point, no need to bring up that you rushed before.
