Out of State Question
by: GAHow do you get on the radar of some of the sororities? Heard several don't even look at out of state girls and some don't even take recs. What do you do if you don't know anyone here?

You may be out of state but if you are in region, meaning the South, you may actually know of some sorority members already. There are GA girls everywhere here. Find out if there are any girls here from your high school or home town, or camp, or friends of people you or your parents know, whatever. Those can be connections that you can let it be known to that you are coming through rush.

You are not completely discounted by any means. Bring your A-game to rush. Every house is looking for that gem who was not on their radar at first but shows up and impresses. Be poised and confident, and focus on how you present yourself in looks and conversations. When asked a question by an active, it's not the answer that you give, it's how you answer. One example: "How's rush going for you so far" is not the time to say you are nervous, stressed, confused, tired, and your feet hurt. So many pnm's answer like that. Instead, use the opportunity to show your personality and sense of humor.

What if you are coming from a state where you don't know anyone at UTK. It's intimidating enough coming to a school where you don't know anyone. I don't want to be completely discounted before Rush even starts. Any advice?
