Rushing as a sophomore

by: ….

Anyone have advice? Will it be easier to get into the one I want because I know some people now?

if you’re going to have the attitude of only wanting one, i doubt you’re going to do well. we can tell, trust me.

But what if it’s the one I want?

you shouldn’t have one you want. period. it’s not how rush works and it’s going to ruin your performance in other houses, which will probably get you dropped from the one you do want.

Anybody who has already been in school a year has met members in different sororities and has an idea of the ones they are interested in. That's normal and the way rush works for upperclassmen. You would know that if you were actually in a sorority.

With formal recruitment it'll probably be harder, most spots go to freshman and highschoolers usually have higher gpa. And you shouldn't rush if you have a closed mind and are only open to one sorority. Panhellenic is a community, you should be happy to call any sorority your home. But you can try formal recruitment and look into cob if things don't work out (depending on chapter since some don't cob)

The comments above are coming from idiots who have absolutley no clue what they are talking about.

Rush is usually much easier for sophomores for two reasons: 1) They have been here a year and have made friends with sorority members. You should let anyone you know in the sororities that you are coming through so they can pull for you, even in houses that aren't your first choice. DO NOT go around saying which house you want. That may not work out for you and it could get you cut from others that would be good choices for you. Say you are keeping an open mind, and mean it, but if you have a favorite house do make a point to tell that one during rush. 2) There is a separate quota for upperclassmen so they don't have to compete with freshmen for spots. This is a huge help.

Uhhh...remember that several houses don't even utilize the sophomore quota. They don't want to be nudged into taking girls they don't want just for numbers or happy faces. They want the girls they want and that's that.

Read the comment again. Helps and makes it easier, not guarantees a bid. Already knowing chapter members helps, not having to compete with freshmen for quota spots helps. That is all.
