by: ?I'm transferring to UTK as a junior in the fall and am seriously considering rush. After reviewing each sorority on the website and finding this page I thought I'd ask, how many houses will give a bid someone without a letter of recommendation? I have a 3.3 GPA but literally know no one who was in a sorority. What are the chances of getting a bid to ANY house as a junior, no recommendations, and not that high of a GPA. Will I not get one at all? I'm interested in Greek life but don't really want to go through only to be disappointed.

Are very important. Anyone can get them with a little research! Look up local alumni chapters near where you live and you can contact them/give them a resume so they can write you a letter of recommendation. Most houses cut people after the first round if they don't have a rec. As for your GPA- a 3.3 in college is good and definitely won't be a problem for you. And sometimes getting a bid as a junior is easier because all sororities have to meet a certain quota of upperclassman! Hope this helped.

Are you positive that you don't know anyone who has a sorority affiliation? Any woman who went to a four year college is a possibility. Check with some of your past teachers, your friends' family members and have your parents ask around their workplaces. If your mom or other adult relatives are on Facebook, have them post that you're going through recruitment and looking for recs. I seriously know a lot of PNMs who found some of their recs that way. You just don't always know who might be Greek or who might be able to connect you with alumnae. As said above, alum groups are another option. Good luck with recruitment!
