utk rejection

by:

Hi. This is kind of sorority related, but I recently got denied from utk and it was the only school I applied to. I was really into the Greek life idea and UT was the only school close to me that offered it. Is ut a hard school to get into or should I apply again later?

UTK is not a very difficult--actually pretty easy--school to get into. Assess why you were denied and see if you can fix that and try again. Good luck!

UTK has become more competitive in the past few years. If you are a Tennessee resident and don't have AT LEAST a 3.25 GPA from your HS, then you need to apply to one of the smaller state schools in Tennessee. If you are from oos - then you will need at least a 3.5 to get in. My cousin was not accepted and went to UT-Chatt for one semester, she then transferred to Knoxville for spring semester.

Here's another thing to keep in mind - - if you don't have at least a 3.0 GPA, Greek life may not be for you. The cut off for most groups is about that.

and make sure you have some advanced classes or AP classes as well. My friend had great grades but easy classes and was denied. This year's freshman class had nearly a 4.0 and high ACT scores so getting in is getting harder.

Absolutely not! BUT, If you want to be a greek THAT BAD you need to go to Ole Miss. They have very low admission standards and they are fairly inexpensive for out of state (I think OOS students are cheaper than in-state at UTK). AND, they're greek system is unreal. They had 1400 pnm for sorority recruitment. Even their bottom tier groups are better than upper tiers at some SEC schools!

Not sure I would put Ole Miss admissions below UT....

Ole Miss only requires a 15 ACT, so if you breath, have a brain and are willing to pay out of state tuition you can get in Ole Miss. You can transfer to UT after freshman year if you get your academics in order while at Ole miss. The sororitys that are good at both schools are XO, KD, Phi Mu and Tri Delt.

I don't know how your ACT or SAT scores were, but UTK puts pretty strong emphasis on them. Also, like Yeah said, how tough your high school classes were gets looked at. I know someone who got in with a 3.1 and someone else who got in with a 3.2, but they both went to oos private high schools with really tough academics, had taken tons of AP and honors and had strong extra curriculars with a lot awards, leadership and volunteer activities.

Miss admissions are way below Tennessee's. Go on College Data and you can see the average ACT and GPA's of admitted students. Nice try though.

The only reason I wanted to go to college period was greek life

You're kidding, right? I mean, Greek Life can be great and add a lot to your college years, but it's just one part of the experience for people who are interested, which a lot aren't. There are more non-Greeks than Greeks here and at most schools. You need to have more reasons to come to college than that, starting with getting an education.

Try again next year. Chances are you'll get in as a sophomore.

Cousin couldn't get into UT, but did easily at Ole Miss. But go to college for an education, not Greek life! Feel sorry for the sorority you get in because grades are important!!

If you had a 3.4 GPA there must be another problem. 3.4 is an exceptional GPA at UT.

a little low for UT. Check College Data. I would think if you had high ACT scores it would have balanced out though. UT has really stepped up its admissions the last couple of years. If you took cake classes in high school, forget it.
