Sig Ep has some real problems with their national office. Rather than help their largest and most successful chapters, they've adopted rules that will shut them all down.

Tired of reading about Sig Ep. Their Karen rules, their closings, their drama. Refund all dues, nationwide, and shut it down.

From what I heard from Greeks at other schools is that dry Sig Ep houses are becoming too weak and too woke. Quality guys that would rush in the past are looking at Sig Ep as a service and academic club rather then a social fraternity. It's sad, but their Balance Man Program is hurting their chapters instead of making them strong. So many chapters either disaffiliated or surrendered their charters.

Weak because National HQ hates traditional fraternity things, like pledging and partying. New guys are supposed to be full members upon accepting their bid and we're also supposed to recruit every day of the year so it makes those initial membership numbers look high. The problem is retainment numbers are super low because this style of recruitment is really hurting chapters with either bad people getting in with full membership right off the bat, or chapters just turning into a bunch of weirdos that no one wants to rush or remain a part of, so it's definitely a challenge. It doesn't help that a lot of people that research us before rush can easily think these guys are lame, they let anyone in with no pledgeship, and have dry housing. Why go there when I can go to a real fraternity down the street where guys had to "earn" membership and they can have a good time.

It’s almost like you remove all barriers to entry into an organization and disallow the organization to police itself and somehow (surprise!) there are no standards and bad things happen.

Only downhill from here.

BMP sucks

The Balanced Man Program is a continuous development experience focused on scholarship, leadership and life skills that complements UTK’s classroom curriculum.   The refinement of these crucial skills helps our brothers succeed upon graduation and prepares them to achieve balance and satisfaction in every aspect of their lives.

Eighteen-year-old high school graduates often come from a highly structured, supportive and supervised environment. While they may relish their new-found independence, the hundreds of hours they will spend outside the classroom may be a challenge for men to stay focused and goal-oriented. The Balanced Man Program is designed to provide a sufficiently structured, supportive experience with a brotherhood of high achievers, close friends, and mentors to provide personal and professional guidance.

Sig Ep nationals killed this chapter long ago when they developed the BMP. Not even to mention that nationals failed to aid the chapter when false accusations had been made and blindly accepted speculation without providing evidence. Sig Ep nationals failed the chapter not the other way around.

This paragraph right here is exactly why people are dropping sigep and refusing to rush it. The guys that originally joined wanted to join a tradition fraternity, all for nationals and alumni to try and make it into a boring business fraternity. Nobody wants to join that.

Who pays for the babysitter from Sig Ep headquarters?

Nationals revoked the charter from the undergraduates and placed the charter in the hands of an alumni council who will now do a membership review. Those selected to remain will rebuild the chapter for a few years in a transitional period before applying for the charter to be returned.

The chapter leaders are misaligned philosophically and unable to build and protect a culture around the right things.

What is balance man?

A membership review is pretty much a death sentence. Nationals will do interviews and pressure brothers into becoming snitches. Nationals will eventually cut 2/3 of the guys. The remaining 1/3 will have to decide if they're cool with canceling their brothers. Those that do will then have to follow SigEp rules to the letter - no drinking, no pledging, full time tracking with the Balanced Man app on their phones...
