rec letters

Which chapters don't require rec letters? I've been homeschooled during most of high school so I don't know a lot of teachers/alumni well.

Go to the utk panhellenic site. Each sorority will list their own specific information such as costs, gpa and rec requirements. If a sorority says a rec is not required but recommended, get one anyway. Recs are a great way to turn in another piece of information about you. And they will get looked at.

The sororities that require them are ADPi, AOPi, Chi O, Tri Delt, DZ, KKG, PM and SK.

The ones that don't require them but still advise you get one are AXO, DG, KD, Pi Phi and Zeta.`

You want one of the ones listed but don't have a rec letter are you 100% not going to get a bid from them?

A bid is NEVER guaranteed no mater what you do or don't do. That being said sororities that had a higher retention rate during rush have to release a larger number of pnms during recruitment. Which means you won't know which sororities have to release the most pnms. If you don't have a rec that could be a basic reason to be released and not be looked at even though you are an awesome person. Do what you can to help yourself and get noticed in a positive way and then trust the system and be happy where you land.

If a sorority's info says a rec is required, assume that not having one will get you cut. Just cover your bases even tho the rec won't guarantee a bid, as OK told you. When recruitments are really competitive, not having recs can make for an easy cut, or be the deciding factor between you and someone who does have one.

If you're having trouble finding an alum for a certain sorority, go to the national website, look up the alumnae chapter nearest to you and contact them. My mom does a lot of recs for her sorority and that's what she tells girls to do. Also, she and alumnae from other sororities network, so ask the ones you do know if they might know some from other sororities. Remember, any lady you know who went to a four year school might have a sorority affiliation, so ask ones you know from church, your parent's work, babysitting, community service, etc. etc. etc! Really, make every effort to get recs to every UTK chapter and good luck next fall!

Some people will tell you they got a bid from a sorority they didn't have a rec to, but you can't trust that. They might have had a rec and not known it. The sorority might have found one for them, or the person might have contacted an alum but didn't hear back and assumed a rec wasn't done, when it really was. That happens more than you might think. Get recs, ESPECIALLY if a sorority's info says one is required!
