sorority

by:

Hi! I really want to rush in the fall of 2014. I will be a junior and new student at Utk. I will be transferring from Santa Barbara city college in California and have a 3.3 gpa. I really want to see what my chances are of getting into a sorority if any one can help me out! (: thanks!

It's always tougher for an upperclassman in SEC sorority rush, but UTK has an upperclassman quota that can help you out. Your GPA should be fine. It would be on the lower end if you were an incoming freshman, but isn't for a college GPA. You'll need to be very open minded and willing to consider a bid from any of the chapters. That shouldn't be hard because they're all big, have a mix of girls, new houses, social calendars and philanthropy events they host and others they support. Make sure you get recs to every sorority and keep all social media clean and classy -- it will probably get looked at. It's hard to say what someone's actual chances are, but most (around 3/4th) who stick with the process do end up pledging. The ones who don't pledge usually aren't completely released. Some are, but most drop out on their own because they don't like their return invites after a certain round. So many times, that turns out to be a mistake, so as long as you're getting invites, don't drop! Give it through pref before making that decision. Plenty of PNMs end up loving a house they didn't initially see themselves in. So -- get recs, put your best self out there, be very open minded and don't drop. Good luck!
