the ut housing directors
by: BrockjI'm very upset right now as I'm an incoming freshman and planned on participating in ut Greek life. I recently saw that about a week ago the ut administrators approved live in housing directors, pretty much RAs, in every fraternity house by fall '14. This sounds like it will destroy Greek life as they will enforce the dry campus policy and underage drinking. Do any current Greek members care to comment on this?

If the only thing that interests you in Greek life is drinking and partying, then maybe fraternity life isn't for you. Let's look at the positives...networking, leadership skills, friendship, knowing that someone cares if you make good grades or not, scholarship opportunities, meeting new people, being a part of something bigger than yourself, giving back to the community through philanthropy and service.
Maybe live in House Directors will ensure that Greek life continues at UT, not "destroy it" like you say.

^^ The message about fort houses above is correct. Greek life, and the ability to party on the row, is dying. That being said, all of the organizations that have not been kicked off (yet) have a lot to offer outside of partying, and the vast majority own or are in the process of acquiring fort houses to host proper social events.
If you're interested in REAL Animal House/TFM fraternity life go to Ole Miss or Alabama. You will not find it at UT.
