cost

by: jerry

I think I've saved enough money to be in a fraternity. I know that dues can be anywhere from 800-1400. can anyone give me a rundown on about how much money i should have for one year (including like formals and other stuff not included in dues).

My dues (not a new member) are about $150-$170 a month.
The meal plan is added to your tuition but usually aren't on that your first year. Usually new member fees range from $200-$400. I don't always buy the tshirts, depends on if I went or the design and how broke I am but I would say about $100-$150 for the first semester. Buying stuff for date parties and mixers varies on how thrifty and creative you are, but maybe $100 for that since you'll be new and don't have a lot yet. Formal is dependent upon what you like to wear and where you buy it, I spend about $50-$100 on a formal dress and usually wear shoes I own already. Buying alcohol for you and your date around $35. A lot of this is really dependent on you as a person and how much you can stretch a dollar. I have worked to pay my dues and try to borrow stuff for date parties etc

It'll be like $1500/semester which includes the cost of most expenses for a semester. Pledge dues are less though and that depends on which fraternity you join. There's also an initiation fee.
