rush
by: PNMDo sororities look at GPA as a big factor when rushing? Can you be cut for it?

There will 1500 girls going through recruitment, many with 4.0+ out of High School. GPA is a quick way to make some of the bulk cuts required after Round 1. I would be prepared if you do not have at least a 3.75 HS GPA (especially if you did not attend a school with a known difficult curriculum) to experience some of these cuts if you are A) Not a Legacy B) don't have a strong recommendation letter or 3) don't know someone in the chapter or make a great instant connection during recruitment.
Side note, it is faux pas to say 'rush' or 'rushing' anymore- it's 'recruitment.'

Generally speaking, if you aren't doing too hot in high school, college is going to be even more difficult. You need above a 3.0 to not face really heavy cuts and a 3.5 to really be competitive with the house's you want to notice you. If you have a combo of factors like an 3.2 but we're a dancer, on a committee, and have a great personality, that 3.5 may not be so important to a chapter. It's so so dependent on the chapter, the other girls rushing on their radar, and what ends up happening after you and the house's rank each other.

GPS is more important with some houses than others. It really helps if you don't know girls in any chapters. I would also add that legacy does not always help. Several of the sororities have enough legacies going through rush to fill a pledge class, Legacies get cut a lot, even really smart, personable, and attractive girls. It's all about fit. Trust your gut, and don't fall in love with just one sorority. I promise, you will love wherever you land.
