Why would you want to hang around 18-22 yr olds when you are 27? You will be wasting your time going through recruitment. It's creepy, and no one will give you a bid.

Honestly I don't know how many sororities will be open to the idea. I don't think you'll be seen as a creepy old girl but really think about the experience. Are you ok with having a "big" sister who is 19-20? If you had to live in your house are you cool with nicer dorm style rooms? Every house still has to look at your GPA-- have you attended college in the past (if not how is your high school GPA)? Try and get some really good letters of recommendation.

It will be possible for you to interact with many UTK sorority members throughout campus without your having to become an initiated sorority member. On the other hand, if you are interested with the intake provisions of the Divine Nine sisterhoods (AKA, DST or ZBT) their standards and set-ups are not well known to many on this chatboard. Please contact the UTK greek life offices right away with any sorority recruitment concerns you have to get the best and brightest information for your inquiries.

I don't think there are any sororities that would be super thrilled to have a 27 year old in a pledge class. Houses recruit based on if they think you will fit in to the sisterhood and the age gap seems too much for Greek life. The oldest I've seen go through recruitment is about 23

At the end of the day, Greek Life has the potential to be a great social outlet for anyone who chooses to embrace it. If you want to partake, try out rushing. Of course you would initially make a bad impression based on your age, but maybe a house is willing to try taking you on as a pledge. If you're really considering it, the worst that could happen would be going through rush without a bid which would be the same outcome as if you didn't even rush at all. I don't see the harm in at least trying!

Gotta wonder why a 27 year old would want to be in a pledge class with 18 year olds. It IS creepy. Very. You are too old and are not a kid anymore so just face it. You would NEVER fit in with our age group. My house will cut you first round.

Stumbled across this I’m not big with greekrank and I don’t go to UT,
But I’ve heard of this happening at other schools. Idk if age is just a bigger deal at SEC schools? I had a 25 year old friend get in, but I also went to school in California where greek life isn’t as big And transfer students(juniors) rushing is common.
Also just saw how old this post is...still curious though.
