How much does GPA count for or against you when rushing? I didn't have a great first semester here, but my high school credentials show this isn't the usual to expect from me. Does this one semester screw up matter THAT much?

Your college GPA is what they will look at, not your highschool GPA. If you have below a 3.0 I wouldn't rush unless you want to be let down. Focus on school second semester and try to get your grades up and then try rushing again in the Fall.
