mutual selection

Panhellenic does not do a very good job of explaining Mutual Selection to the PNM. Mutual Selection does not really kick in until Sisterhood or Preference Round if you have a full schedule. Here are the highlights:
1. PNM's do not cut houses- houses cut PNM's. PNM's RANK houses in the order they liked them best. When you get a house on your schedule that you ranked lower on the list it means that one of the houses that you ranked higher DROPPED YOU, and that the houses on your list wanted you to come back.
2. You should go into each day of recruitment as a new day. There will be disappointments if you do not have a house on your schedule that you really liked, but take a deep breath, put on a smile and go into the houses that DID WANT YOU and show them what a fantastic girl you are.
3. ALL houses drop girls. There is not a house at UT that will just take everyone. Some houses drop more at the beginning of recruitment, and some houses drop the majority of their girls later on, but ALL houses drop girls. Plenty of girls never made it to Preference Round because they were dropped by everyone.

is pretty accurate- although there are NOT huge numbers of girls dropped by ALL chapters, it does happen sometimes. Chapters drop PNM's, not really the other way around even though PNMs like to say they dropped someone. Don't be scared of the process and keep your options options open and follow the EXCELLENT advice in # 2 above.

In essence they do drop houses if they rank them last.
