Phi Mu - ΦΜ Sorority Ratings at UTK

Phi Mu has a lot of pretty girls and unfortunately I think looks are what they prioritize during rush. Every phi mu I’ve met always seems to think very highly of themselves and it seems like these girls are trying really hard to convince themselves and others that Phi Mu is top sorority at UTK. In actuality, I feel like I don’t really hear much about them and what I do is mostly negative. I’ve especially heard that sisterhood in this sorority is not as a strong as others.

I can’t say enough negative things about Phi Mu (the only positive is that they do have some good plugs) but they are MEAN girls. They are not nice to people outside of their sorority and care so much about status for being the “#1” sorority. If you really want a top house go KD, Tri Delt, DZ, or AXO instead. Phi Mu is genuinely just not a happy place.

For being a top house at UTK, Phi Mu gets a lot of hate for being blonde and "plastic". However, this is definitely not true. With any top SEC sorority there are going to be a few mean, fake girls in the bunch, they are in every sorority at UTK. But every Phi Mu I have personally met has been very sweet and welcoming. I think these girls get a lot of hate and I don't know why. Even there recruitment is completely geared towards personality versus looks nowadays. Phi Mu is a top house and always will be and its super rare to meet one you dont like. Not to mention, they are absolutely stunning!

Typically very selective on who they take. Some of the girls are absolute sweethearts but you can tell some of them are rude and only care about being popular. It’s lowkey starting to hurt their rep

Phi mu has a terrible retention rate. Most girls drop because it is such a superficial sorority. If you want to be surrounded by pretty girls who will exclude you and make you feel less than them go ahead. I dropped for a reason. The girls were terrible to me and thought of me less because I wasn’t as skinny as them.

Really a fun group of girls. They definitely go for looks during rush, but the sisterhood is genuine. They’re also well respected among the frats and their philanthropy is TOP TIER. I mean the amount of money they raise for ETCH is insane.

I can’t really say anything about UTK Phi Mu that hasn’t already been said. They’re top tier not just at UTK but nationwide too. Of course, this gets to their heads sometimes but there are also a lot of humble and down-to-earth girls in the chapter believe it or not. Though I will admit if you’re not rich and pretty you likely won’t get a bid. They know how to party and can be seen at almost every tailgate BUT they’re also very smart and do constant tabling and philanthropy stuff. Overall they’re an amazing group and I think they deserve their high reputation.

great chapter with the hottest blondes on campus, they are great to mix with and know how to have a great time. Tons of fun.

These girls kinda scare me but at least their house smells like cookies and all the members seem to enjoy it. They are the copy-paste kind of sorority if you know what I mean. No hate, just an observation. I always expect them to be mean girls, but they are overall pleasant individuals. I feel pretty neutral about them and I haven’t had any specific bad experiences. The only major critique is they really emphasize how wealthy all the members are and they require a lot more time/energy from their members than most other chapters. They commit to the brand for sure.

If you are rushing for status then go ahead, but if you are truly looking for meaningful friendships or any sort of a fun time, steer clear. They did homecoming with sig chi last year and supposedly the guys hated it cause the girls are hard to talk to, boring and judgmental. As a whole, they make their personality about looks and money, they are definitely pretty though. Just remember everyone will be nice during rush, that’s not how it’s going to be once you’re actually a member. I have met ONE nice phi mu and for a group of 300 something girls, that isn’t a great ratio.
