how can a bunch of losers from high school become

So, you weren't a cool kid in high school. You rushed SigEp and Sigma Chi, but didn't get a bid because you were a goober. You also rushed Pi Kapp, Delta Chi, and the other chapters not because you really liked them, rather you knew you needed a back up. So, there you are in a chapter with kids who also weren't cool in high school and were leftovers. Tell me, how did all of the goobers from high school magically become top tier all of a sudden?
