What do "rankings" mean?
by: NoobWondering what a fraternity or sorority's "rank" means. Is it a popularity contest or are there objective things you can look at? What's the difference between top/mid/low tier? I don't want to join a fraternity if its a douche contest so what are ranks guaged on?

What makes a fraternity or sorority popular or relevent? Whoever throws the biggest parties or goes out the most? Does it really matter if your fraternity or sorority is "top?" How does a greek organization rise higher in ranking if not by being the last to mess up and fall?

popularity/relevance is a combination of their quality of parties, party attendance, sorority relations with the better ones, how attractive the guys are, how many girls like them, and how often you hear about them. No it doesn’t really matter if you’re “top” or not, the best like 6 fraternities (ΣΧ, ΠΚΑ, ΦΔΘ, ΣΦΕ, ΚΣ, ΑΣΦ) are all good quality and have the most fun though. It’s also nice to known as someone in a good frat. You can raise higher in ranking over time with recruiting better guys, increasing sorority relations, and throwing more events. But that takes a while and isn’t done within a semester. That’s why these rankings have pretty much been the same for a while and likely won’t change for a while.
